Add all ingredients to a blender with enough water to create a thick but smooth, drinkable liquid. Pour into 2-4 tall glasses and drink on up!
Easy-peasy recipe for all you apple cinnamon lovers! Healthy smoothie recipe uses your fave greens, applesauce, cinnamon and even some sour rhubarb :)
But here are some variations for you to tinker with, if you like:
While you can use ANY green for this recipe, also realize that your greens can be raw OR cooked. And yes, those Hostas so often grown as ornamental shade-tolerant plants in the garden, are EDIBLE!
Young Hosta leaves when they come out in the spring are fine to eat raw, but as they grow, the leaves toughen (especially when the plants are in flower), at which point steaming them is best. If you happen to have other wild greens like Lamb's Quarter, Wild Lettuce, Sorrel, etc., you can add them raw or cooked to the blender. I like to add a handful of Mallow leaves (cooked or raw) for extra slipperiness :)
No need to peel any apples when you can open a jar and add in applesauce, already pureed! However, you can use 2-4 (peeled if you prefer) cored and chopped (raw or cooked) apples instead. Go for a sweeter variety like Red Delicious or Pink Lady, to offset the sourness of the rhubarb.
If you do find the rhubarb to yield a too sour-tasting smoothie, simply:
As always, Enjoy :)
