One cannot live by bread alone, as one cannot merely live in darkness.
It is good to invite dark friends in. Good that they should come knocking at the witching hour, at 1, 2 or even 3 a.m. Really, any time is good.
Be sure to offer them food and wine. Set the table and offer them a seat. Ah, they are such good company, these shadows of remorse, guilt, shame, anger, pain, sadness... Now where is that one called drama and the other called suffering gone?
Ah see, they are here, they are all here! And such a great party it is!
Just remember that being a gracious host means keeping a light burning. And just remember that should one or more ask, please, to extinguish the light, that such light should expose such craggy faces, that such requests should be met with silence, or ignorance at best.
Bring a light, you see. Only one light, one candle is needed. If it is extinguished, the electric light will do. A backup generator certainly comes in handy! Yet one can use a flashlight, even one on a cell phone, or even they have now some battery-fueled candles. A lighter can do and even the dawn light, now showing its first appearance at the window pane when one opens the curtains will do splendidly.
So many sources of light, and only one is needed. Just... One.
To play with shadows in the dark, you must understand, one is sure to be ravaged. Dark with dark, it does not equate to two negatives turning into a positive, sadly. Yes sadly, but better to say sufferingly. One should say that one suffers it so, and suffers it badly, or greatly, depending upon the perspective.
One light suffices, you see. One light, and darkness is banished to the corners of the room. Darkness hovers around the light, almost embracing it. Darkness is not denied; nothing is denied. Only that light has come to see such darkness better, to offer truth and wisdom, to see it as it is.
One does not delight in evil, but one does understand the timeless wisdom of Rumi, that darkness is there to push us to the light, the light that was, has been, and will always be.
Embrace the Light.
One Source. One Light. One Love.
